The Promise Zones Initiative was created under the Obama Administration to increase economic activity, improve educational opportunities, leverage private investment, reduce violent crime, enhance public health and address other priorities identified by high poverty communities. In January of 2014, the San Antonio Eastside Promise Zone was among the first five communities to receive a 10-year Promise Zone designation. The San Antonio Eastside Promise Zone Initiative is a collaboration of public, private, and nonprofit organizations that are dedicated to creating a vibrant and prosperous community in East San Antonio.

The Promise Zone is showing signs of progress and change in the domains of income, education attainment, and employment.  Through the various implementation partners and initiatives, the Promise Zone is making strides in engaging the community, expanding economic activity, and leveraging private capital. The initiatives and programs implemented in the San Antonio Promise Zone have shown to be successful in helping to create a vibrant and prosperous community. The San Antonio Promise Zone has entered the 10th and final year of its federal designation. Partners, leaders, stakeholders, and community members remain committed to continued investment in the improvements of the San Antonio Promise Zone.  These collective efforts will help to ensure that the progress made in the Promise Zone is sustained in the future.
