Storefront Grant

The Storefront Grant is a remarkable program aimed at revitalizing and empowering local businesses in the eastern neighborhoods of San Antonio. Recognizing the vital role that small businesses play in fostering economic development and community cohesion, SAGE provides much-needed financial assistance to entrepreneurs and property owners looking to improve and beautify their storefronts. By offering grants to support exterior renovations, signage upgrades, and facade enhancements, the program not only enhances the overall aesthetics of the area but also encourages a sense of pride and investment among local business owners. The SAGE initiative serves as a driving force in fostering economic growth, creating vibrant spaces, and strengthening the sense of community in San Antonio’s Eastside, ultimately paving the way for a brighter future for both businesses and residents alike.

Small Business Support

SAGE’s Small Business Support Program (“SBS”) provides business support, access to educational opportunities, technical assistance, resources, and grant assistance to small businesses located in Eastside of San Antonio. The Program is specifically designed to meet the demands of small businesses (whether startup or growth-minded) that need targeted and tailored support.

SAGE provides support and assistance in a manner tailored to business needs including,:

(1) referring participating small businesses to business development technical experts, peers, and mentors to assist them with any emerging improvement plans;

(2) connecting business owners to resources and other grant opportunities that include funds for capital, façade improvement, capacity building, and casualty loss expenses;

(3) continuous follow up with participating small businesses to check in generally, understand preexisting or new challenges, and encourage progress towards goals.

Additionally, SAGE offers intensive support to select small businesses through peer cohorts. These cohorts provide an opportunity for participants to work closely with business development experts, peers, and mentors, receiving tailored guidance on both emerging challenges and long-term growth strategies.

Cultural and Historical Markers Program

San Antonio’s Eastside is a culturally rich area with deep roots in African American, Latino, and indigenous heritage, long serving as a hub for artistic expression. To celebrate this legacy, SAGE is leading an initiative to install historical markers throughout the Eastside, commemorating significant events, locations, and individuals, and helping residents and visitors connect with the area’s history.

Alongside the markers, SAGE will commission vibrant murals that reflect the stories and contributions of Eastside residents. These murals will be more than just visual art—they will educate, narrate community history, and inspire pride.

Through these artistic projects—murals, cultural statues, and historical markers—SAGE aims to transform the Eastside into a cultural landmark that honors its heritage, encourages creativity, and boosts tourism. By involving local artists and the community, this initiative will ensure authentic representation while enhancing the area’s cultural appeal.
